You're Not Stuck. You’re at the Starting Line.

Ever feel like you’re stuck and not sure how to get past that? Uncomfortable, isn't it? That cycle can feel never-ending.
But that feeling of being stuck isn’t necessarily a problem. It’s a sign that you are at the starting point for something different and that it’s time for some kind of change.
After over 20 years of making changes in my own life and work—and teaching clients how to do the same—I can tell you this:
Feeling stuck at some point is part of the process of creating change and navigating transitions.
Yes, it can feel uncomfortable, but it’s not the bad thing many people think it is. Here’s why:
Why Feeling Stuck Happens
The source of that feeling is simple: you don’t yet have the information, clarity, data, or plan to offer a meaningful alternative to the status quo. This can trigger feelings like fear, hesitation, and uncertainty, which can result in you feeling stuck.
But that discomfort isn’t a dead end. It’s data. It’s telling you that something isn’t aligned anymore—and that you’re standing at the threshold of change. It’s a starting point. Feeling stuck is just part of the evolution of getting from one thing to another. It’s telling you something. Your job is to listen and use that information to inform your next steps.
When you break it down, feeling stuck is simply being between “what is” (that you no longer want) and “what’s next” (which you haven’t figured out yet). You’re at the starting line.
Steps to Get Unstuck.
Getting unstuck is a step-by-step process. Here are a few steps to help you get started:
Step 1: Stop dwelling on the problem
Replaying what led you here over and over keeps you stuck. Learn from it, apply the learning, let it inform your next steps, and shift your focus forward.
Step 2: Treat Feeling Stuck as Data (because it is!)
Discomfort and uncertainty are part of change. Instead of resisting it, get curious. Ask yourself:
“What’s the best possible outcome from this situation?”
“What’s one small step I can take to gain clarity and move forward?”
Use what comes up for you to figure out a way forward.
Step 3: Reframe Your Narrative
The stories you tell yourself shape your reality. Shift your internal dialogue by adopting a powerful new mantra:
“I’m not stuck. I’m evolving.”
This mindset shift turns feeling stuck into possibility, opportunity, and growth, not stagnation.
Here are some additional steps to help you move forward:
- Identify what the source is that is making you feel stuck.
- Define what success looks like on the other side.
- Get clear on what you want your life, work, career, or business to look like when you get unstuck.
- Identify the change required to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
- Create a plan and break it down into small steps. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you start.
The Bottom Line: You’re Not Stuck—You’re at the Starting Line
Feeling stuck is simply the beginning of the next phase. As soon as you take control, take action, and take steps to move forward (no matter how small), you are no longer stuck.
Motion = Not Stuck. Get clarity, then get into action.
