Key Factor That Determines Your Success in Changing Your Life

Key Factor That Determines Your Success in Changing Your Life

The top factor affecting whether you will successfully achieve the changes you want to make in your life, work, career, or business is often overlooked.

For most people, the starting point is to focus predominantly on the tasks they need to complete.

That’s a mistake.

Don’t get me wrong! Having a solid plan broken down into tasks is critical. But it’s not the most influential factor.

There’s something else that can either set you up to succeed or sabotage your progress entirely.

And it’s this:

The biggest factor in whether you will be successful with the changes you want to make is who you are "being".

I’m not talking about your personality here. I’m sure you’re lovely as you are!

I mean how you show up while working toward your goals, including your behaviors, habits, mindset, and emotions.

You can have the best strategy and action plan in the world, but you are the one who has to implement them. If you’re not showing up in a way that turns those plans into reality, it’s like running on a hamster wheel. You will feel you are working hard, but not really getting anywhere.

For example, if your goal is to make changes in your life but fear, lack of confidence, and self-doubt are running the show, while you spend hours scrolling your phone or bingeing Netflix, then no amount of planning is going to move you forward.

The bottom line:

Who you are being drives how you show up. And how you show up is the deciding factor in whether you will successfully change your life or not.

So, give that as much focus as you do your planning. Here's how to get started with that:

Step 1: Think about a change you want to make in your life or a goal you want to achieve.

Step 2: Assess what behaviours, habits, mindset, and emotional state you need to foster to set yourself up to succeed. Work on developing those.

Step 3: Identify current ways you might be sabotaging yourself and the outcomes you want to achieve. Create a plan to address those things.

Experiment with this and see what comes up for you. Use that information to inform your next steps.
