Or maybe you know you are not achieving your goals but aren’t sure why.
Here are some common reasons people don’t achieve their goals.
You might want to check that you aren’t falling into any of these traps.
8 Reasons You Are Not Achieving Your Goals
1. You haven’t set any!
You aren’t going to achieve what you really want if you don’t clearly declare “this is what I am shooting for and this is when I am going to achieve it by.” If you haven’t set any goals, time to get on the case.
2. They aren’t specific enough
Being as specific as you can with your goals is really important. Here’s why – the more specific your goals are the more specific your action plans can be. The more specific your action plans are, the more specific your results will be. Get specific!
3. You haven’t broken your goals down into action plans
Setting goals doesn’t deliver results. Taking action delivers results. So unless you have turned your goals into rock solid action plans, you aren’t going to achieve them.
4. You aren’t reviewing them regularly
Unless you review progress with your goals regularly, how will you know if you have drifted off course? How will you know if you need to tweak or change them as you go along? Make sure you are reviewing your goals regularly to stay on track.
5. You are spending your time on the wrong things
Take an audit of what you spend most of your time on. You might well be very busy, but are you busy doing the things that will deliver your most important goals? What changes do you need to make to be spending your time more wisely?
6. You don’t really believe you can achieve them
Lack of self belief is a killer when it comes to achieving goals. If this is something that affects you, commit to learning how to improve your self belief so that you can step out of your own way.
7. You don’t have enough energy
Taking persistent and consistent action to achieve your goals takes mental and physical energy. You need to make sure you are taking damn good care of yourself and have a self care programme to keep your energy levels up. What do you need to do to improve your energy levels?
8. You are gripped by fear so you don’t take any action
Fear isn’t the problem. Doing nothing about it is the problem. Ask yourself, what needs to be in place/happen/change to make it feel safe for me to walk forward through this fear.” Action those things then march forward.
Those are just some of the things that can get in the way of you achieving your goals. Take some time to work out what is getting in your way. Then, start taking action to put things in place to deal with those things.
