Cris, Having a plan/vision of what we want to have happen is key. Without it we are just drifting and hoping to get where we want to be by chance. I have a vision of where I want to be for all areas of my life and have a three year rolling plan to keep me focussed on the things that will get me there. This becomes an annual action plan. Without it, it is easy to get drawn into the noise of things that might seem urgent but are contributing nothing to achieving our goals. It is easy to lose sight of the plan, but I do think that if you have it, even if you get off track at some point you are more likely to bring yourself back on track than if you don't have one at all. Glad you found you post helpful and thanks for dropping by.

Ali, your post made me stop and evaluate where I am at half-time. It's been a little off-kilter and I haven't been on top of my monthly goals. But so glad I made a yearly plan! I found that somehow I still made half of my yearly goals! Could it be that subconsciously your mind is still working on your plan, even when consciously you're not? Well worth the time set aside to plan! Thanks for a strategic, helpful post!

Hi Christine, your comment about including other halfs in our reviews is so important. Funnily enough I just got back from a planning meeting with my husband to find your comment. I love having my husband involved in my strategy and planning sessions as we can evaluate how everything fits in with designing our lifestyle and our family life. I am a big advocate of always including all areas of our life when doing business reviews.
Measurement of progress, reviews and action planning are such a vital part of our success story. I have different aspects that I review on varying timescales which means I am usually doing some sort of review/planning session monthly, quarterly, half year and annually.
Hope your half year review goes well and looking forward to hearing what comes out of it. Have fun with it.

Hi Ali,

I've been in "do" mode now for the last few weeks and, having just delivered my first major workshop since re-orienting my business, am looking forward to some space in the next couple of weeks to do the kind of review you're talking about here.

One of the things that's on my mind, and well illustrated by the England team's performance to date, is the belief that you need to achieve your goals. So your question about mindset is particularly relevant.

Also, I'm going to be chatting my progress and way forward through with my other half. Apart from anything, he's a major advocate. In addition, one of the drivers behind me changing my way of working was to have more space and time with him, so he's a vital part of the equation.

Thanks as ever for a provocative post.

Hi Eduard, you are spot on about half time being more than a chance to rest. Meaningful change can only happen where space has been created for the points you mention to happen. Appreciate you sharing your comment.

Hey Ali,

I think half-time is more than a chance to rest. It's a chance to rethink your strategy and adapt your game to the context. And there is a lesson we can all learn here: every once in a while, stop, look, listen, and think about your strategy.
