Is your Business a Vampire?

Do you feel that your business is sucking the life out of you? If so, what you have on your hands is the business equivalent of a vampire.

Is your business a vampire?

Tell tale signs that your Business is a Vampire:

  • Working longer hours than you want to
  • Feel like you are peddling really hard but not moving forward
  • Struggling to generate the income levels you desire
  • Personal and family life is being adversely affected
  • You feel like your role as a parent, spouse/partner and other relationships are suffering
  • You can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel
  • You feel like your business is sucking the life out of you

If you can identify with any of these points then you have a business vampire.

Stopping your business sucking the life out of you.

So, what are you going to do about it?

You can try and blame any number of other factors for your business vampire but as the business owner the buck stops with you. The harsh reality is that what you are experiencing is what you have created.

The first step to killing the vampire

Awareness is the first step to any change.

If you have awareness you can decide to make things different. And that is the first step.

Make the decision right now that you are going to kill the vampire. Decide that you are going to create something better starting now.

Just make the decision and commitment to yourself to find a way to make change happen.

The “how” comes after you make the decision so don’t worry about that at this stage.

Just focus on creating awareness around what is the real cause of your business vampire. Once you feel you have a good handle on this then it is time to step up and start taking action to kill your business vampire.

If this feels like an overwhelming task, break it down into bite size chunks and get stuck in.

Enjoyed this post a lot, Ali.

I think at times my business can be a bit of a vampire, particularly as right now it's in transition (as I am) and I am still learning what does and doesn't work.

Hi Ali. Great analogy – I love it! You are very true in what you say when describing the fact that we each are responsible for creating our own work “vampire”. This can be applied to any aspect of business or indeed personal life. I've found simply writing it down in black and white land sticking it on the board in my office helps to stay focused on whatever that vampire may be!

I know what you mean Christine. Those periods of transition can really let the business vampire out of the box! Hope your transition goes well.

Thanks Barney. Glad you liked it. Your point about writing it down and having it in front of you all the time is spot on.It is so easy to lose sight of things. Great tip.

    Hey Ali

I am currently an employee but this post really spoke to me. I definitely find that my work, plus my own site can suck the life out of me. I'm reading a lot of great things at the moment, including your post, which are really helping to change my mindset. So thank you
